This is my last Mandala under creation. I used to draw mandala on a 400×400 canvas but this time I decided to draw and paint it on a 1000×1000 wood plate white painted. I believe that changing the support and size can bring a different energy and aesthetic to my mandala.
As you may be aware, mandalas represent various aspects of the universe or the self. Personally, I try to cultivate a resilient, beautiful, and distinctive self, and for this reason, I prefer to create my mandalas in three distinct steps.
- The first step in creating a mandala involves drawing general patterns to establish a structure or skeleton. This skeleton is like the framework of a building – it gives the mandala its stability and strength, allowing it to withstand the challenges and changes that life brings. Similarly, without a strong structure or framework in our lives, we may struggle to navigate through life’s challenges and changes. By creating a mandala with a strong structure or skeleton, we can find ways to strengthen our own lives.
- The second step in creating a mandala involves painting it with colors. Colors in a mandala can serve as a powerful tool for self-expression and exploration. They have different meanings and symbolism depending on the specific culture, tradition, or intention behind the mandala. For example, in Hindu and Buddhist traditions, the color blue is often associated with communication and self-expression. In general, colors in a mandala can help to develop qualities and characteristics of your self and can provide insight into your emotions, thoughts, and desires. By using colors in your mandala, you can express a deeper understanding of yourself and your inner world.
- The third step in creating a mandala involves adding details to the structure and colors. Details in a mandala represent the Complexities of your self and what makes you unique. They represent the principle of distinction and give a sense of aesthetic and beauty to the mandala. These details can include patterns, shapes, symbols, and textures that show different aspects of your personality, values, and beliefs. By adding these details to your mandala, you are expressing the complexities and nuances of your self.
Have you ever created a mandala before? What was your experience like?
I host workshops on active imagination and mandalas that can serve as tools for self-reflection and personal growth. Depending on the workshop, we explore topics such as resilience, empathy, forgiveness, overcoming obstacles, etc…
